Antarctica Takes It! – The Penguin League (2006)

I’ve also known Dylan for a long time. But I didn’t get a copy of this album for a while for some reason. Dylan never ceases to amaze me with his songwriting — so dynamic you never realize that it’s the same three chords the whole album. (That’s an exaggeration.) This album was recorded on a laptop using the built in microphone, so it is very lo-fi. Dylan’s music is a sweet twee reminiscent of Camera Obscura and Belle and Sebastian but with a soul underlayer. Here are harmonies, pianos, string and horn arrangements. It soars to both ecstatic heights and melancholy depths.
